6TH EDITION

Jean-Luc Dang is back in Chalon for a few days — after years away — and draws a portrait of his childhood neighborhood through a photographic journal.

Jean-Luc Dang is a French director, photographer and artist of Vietnamese origin, born on April 12, 1983. During his studies at the Media Art Fructidor school in Chalon-sur-Saône and then at the Grenoble art school, he developed a passion for photography, painting and video. His obsessive use of photography, which generates an immense database of images, soon led him to conceive a body of work as a video artist, often using slideshows as a format. His documentary-style videos combine images from his photographic journal with the sound of his voice, recounting a personal experience in retrospect. His first film, Ma ZUP 71, takes place shortly before the 2005 riots. De passage (2006) recounts his relationship with a girl he met on the Internet. A few months later, he made Sans-Titres, which was very well received by the public. Le bilan (2008) recounts his daily life as a janitor and art student during a stay in Switzerland.
